Q: What is the screen made out of?
A: The metal frame is a combination of Steel and Aluminum. The screen inner, either clear or white, are made of polyester. See the following links for data sheets on the polyester screen:

Q: I’m not sure whether to purchase a fixed or portable KwickScreen, can one convert into the other?
A: Yes the portable KwickScreen can be converted into a fixed model and vice versa.
Q: How can it reduce Hospital Acquired infections?
A: Apart from a Psychological trigger because of its design, it can only be opened and closed using the metal handle. The material is not touched unlike a Hospital curtain which has to be held in order to be pulled back. Its easily cleaned with an Anti-bacterial wipe and steam cleaning is easy because of so few moving parts.
Q: How does the KwickScreen’s retractable mechanism hold up over time with usage? Is it durable?
A: The retractable mechanism is mostly in the tubes themselves, they are very robust, so much that they are used by the US military as Aerial antennas in the field and by NASA for solar panels in space. As for the spring mechanism inside of the unit, it is very simple and not critical to critical to operating the KS; it just helps the unit wind in.
Q: How easy is it to change a screen?
A: Very easy. Just unzip it from the structure and zip a new one in. One person can do it quickly. Get tired of an image? Order a new one and change it.
Q: Does the Product have a warranty?
A: There is a one year manufacturer’s warranty.
Q: Is the Rolatube part of the KwickScreen affected by cold temperature? What about the polyester screen?
A: The KwickScreen works fine in cold temperatures. There are no detrimental effects of cold weather on either the rolatube or polyester screen.
Q: What is the steel cable at the bottom of the base for?
A: This cable is for grounding the static charge that can build up. A lot of medical products have something like this.
Q: Is the screen surface projectable? How about writeable?
A: The KwickScreen can be used as a projection surface, using rear projection with a translucent inner or front projection using a plain white inner. The KwickScreen is also writeable with Dry Erase pens. When KwickScreens were used at the London 2012 Olympics the Olympic teams and organizers wrote all over their screens with emergency procedures and phone numbers of important people. As with all dry-erase/dry-wipe markers once you have written on the surface you should wait 10 seconds before wiping them off as they could otherwise smudge.
Q: The handle does not close flush with the body, there is about a . inch gap. Why?
A: This is normal. In emergency situations you would not want any fastening mechanisms to worry about. That being said, one of our representatives designed a re-sealable magnet that can be fitted cheaply and easily.
Q: Can the screen be longer than 10 feet?
A: At the moment the screen maxes out at 10 feet 6 inches in length, the cost would be prohibitive for a longer screen. In the future we may be able to supply slightly longer screens but for now and for 99% of our customers the current model is long enough (most do not even extend the screen fully.)
Q: What is the weight of the KwickScreen?
A: The KwickScreen weighs 65 pounds.
Q: When fixed to a wall, how far does the KwickScreen’s unit housing stick out?
A: The unit housing extends only 8.7 inches from the wall, if a customer were to cut out an alcove in the wall for the housing then it can be hidden and look like it is flush with the rest of the wall.
Q: Can Anything be printed on the screen?
A: Yes anything as long as we are provided with a Vector file. The screen has been used to Enhance patient experience, provide privacy for Mother and Baby whilst at the same time with the use of images producing a peaceful and nurturing experience. Can also be used for sponsorship and branding.
Q: Do you have any information on how an image is printed on to the screen?
A: The screens are printed from a medium format digital UV (ultra violet) printer. We use two of them and each cost about $1 million. UV printing is state-of-the-art printing process that uses ultra violet light to cure the ink onto a wide variety of rigid and flexible substrates for many different products. Once cured, the ink is bonded to the substrate and will not require lamination.
Q: Would it be an issue to have one side of a white screen grey and the other side blue or green? Would one side “bleed” into the other if there is enough light behind it?
A: There would be no color bleed through. However writing or an image on one side of the screen would bleed through slightly under strong lighting.
Q: Are there any limitations to what images/colors can be printed?
A: When printing onto a clear/transparent inner the only limitation is that the color white cannot be printed. Some images with white may end up having unwanted areas of transparency when printed onto a clear screen.
Q: Can we order a Translucent screen without any printing? Do we have to specify a color? And is it still at the same price?
A: No, we make it translucent by printing onto clear, so price of translucent (of any color) is same price as a printed on clear.
Q: Why is there a smell with my new screen? How long does it take to go away?
A: The smell is a result of the UV printing process and harmless chemicals evaporating from the ink and is directly related to the amount of ink used. Plain white and transparent/clear screens have no smell. The colors of an image are a result of using 4 different color inks, and black in an image is a combination of all four colors, therefor the amount of black present in an image, the size of an image, and whether or not the screen is printed on both sides dictates how long it will take the smell to go away.
Q: Are there any options to mitigate the smell while it is still there?
A: When you first receive your screen you should open it and air it out for at least 48 hours. The best option for a long term solution is to leave the screen open in an airy room
Q: How easy is it to clean?
A: Very. The screen was designed specifically for ease of cleaning. The polyester film material is perfect for cleaning, as it is very smooth and non-porous and so is easy to wipe clean.
Q: My hospital uses BETCO PH7Q Ultra as a cleaner, as well as peroxide and bleach. I know the bleach is okay but are the others okay to use as well?
A: Yes they are absolutely fine and they leave a fresh lemon smell. The thing to remember is that there is nothing sensitive in our product, it is simple powder coated sheet steel and aluminum, and the inner panel is a high grade polyester film that is basically resistant to anything. The only risk with cleaning is IF the customer uses a dirty cleaning liquid and does not dry it properly, it may leave streak marks on the screen – this is particularly visible on the completely clear inners (e.g. like giving a glass window a bad wash).
Q: The KwickScreen is stated as being very easy to clean, but what does that mean technically? Can it be decontaminated?
A: Absolutely. Remember there are very few moving parts and the screen can easily be steam cleaned.
Q: Since the KwickScreen traverses the floor, instead of being suspended like a curtain, floor cleaning would seem to require relocating the KwickScreen or having to close it.
A: This is not the case; there is a gap underneath the screen above the floor – which actually makes it easy to clean – and the front handle can be moved around to that it is also easy to mop underneath that. Far better than a curtain that touches the floor.
Q: If someone were to graffiti the screen with a permanent marker can it be cleaned off?
A: Obviously we cannot guarantee against this (just as if the person were to mark up the metal unit) however one trick we’ve recently learned is that if someone accidentally uses a permanent marker, you should take a dry erase marker and scribble over the permanent mark then rub it off. You COULD use cleaning fluids but this usually results in a big smudge.
Q: Can the four smaller wheels on the handle be replaced with wheels with locks, just like the mediumr ones? We want to be able to lock the entire screen into place so that no one can accidentally move it.
A: Yes this can be done, and you have a choice of colors for the brakes; dark grey or red. It is more of a logistical issue on the manufacturing side rather than actual cost but it can be done as a special order. Manufacturing believes that four brakes on the handle wheels would be too much, therefore it is recommended to have two braked castors (wheels) on the front of the handle with the back two wheels being normal. The increase in cost per unit is about $25.
Q: Are the screens recyclable? If so, how should they be properly disposed of in situations using the inners for temporary advertising?
A: Regarding issues of recycling and sustainability, consider the following:
RECYCLING
